Terms of service.
last updated · may 28, 2026
These are the terms governing your use of Halt. They're written in plain English because we want you to actually read them. Using Halt means you agree to these terms; if you don't, please don't use the service.
What Halt is
Halt is a personal impulse-control tool that converts the price of a potential purchase into hours of your working life and assigns a 0–100 impulse score. It is provided as a web application at halt.money, with an optional Chrome extension. Halt is a decision-support tool, not financial advice. Outputs are estimates based on the information you provide.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU) to use Halt. By signing up you confirm you meet that bar. If you are using Halt on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for any activity that happens under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, change your password immediately from Settings and email us at support@halt.money. We will help, but we cannot undo charges incurred via a compromised account.
Subscriptions and billing
Halt offers a free tier with daily limits and a paid Pro tier billed monthly or yearly via Stripe. By starting a subscription you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. Prices are listed on /pricing and may change with notice for new billing periods.
Cancellations: You can cancel anytime from Settings → Manage subscription. After cancellation you keep Pro access through the end of the current billing period and then revert to the free tier with all your data intact. We do not issue prorated refunds for mid-period cancellations. We may issue full refunds at our discretion for billing errors, accidental double-charges, or other good-faith disputes raised within 14 days of the charge.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or load-test the service beyond normal personal use.
- Submit content that infringes others' rights or violates applicable law.
- Use Halt to harass, defame, or send unsolicited messages to other people via the waitlist or any contact form.
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, the paywall, or any access controls.
- Use automated tools to programmatically generate evaluations at scale (the verdict feature is for personal decision-making, not bulk classification).
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice when possible.
Your content and data
You retain ownership of the data you enter into Halt (purchases, settings, watchlist). You grant us a limited license to process that data solely to operate the service for you. We do not sell your data and we do not train AI models on it. See the privacy policy for specifics on what we collect and why.
Third-party services
Halt is built on third-party infrastructure: Supabase (database + auth), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (billing), Anthropic (AI verdicts and classification), Resend (transactional email), and SerpAPI (product lookup). Your use of Halt is also subject to their terms where relevant — we've picked providers we trust but we cannot speak for their availability or behavior.
Service availability
Halt is provided as-is. We do our best to keep it running and accurate, but we make no uptime or availability guarantee. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. For material changes that affect paying customers, we'll notify you by email and offer a prorated refund if you choose to cancel as a result.
Disclaimer and liability
Halt is offered "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the verdicts and impulse scores are accurate or suitable for any particular purpose. Use your own judgment for any actual purchasing decision.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of Halt is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages — for example, lost profits, lost savings, or buyer's remorse on a purchase Halt advised against.
Termination
You can stop using Halt and delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger zone. Account deletion is permanent — your data is removed from our active database immediately and from backups within 30 days. We may terminate accounts that violate these terms or for other legitimate reasons, with notice when possible.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms periodically. If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date and — for changes that affect your rights or payments — send an email notice to active accounts. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
